Carbon monoxide is oderless but can cause flu-like symptons-such as head ache,fatigue,nausea-and may even
be fatal. The most important steps in averting carbon monoxide poisoning are to check the heating system for cracks and other
leaks and the chimney for blockages before turning the furnace in the fall. A yearly checkup by a qualified heating
contractor is a must. Also recommended is installing a carbon monoxide detector, which works like a smoke detector. Combined
units are available. Don't forget to check the batteries monthly.
